Fun Roadtrip Games

.....makes the time cruise by

now you know . . . . seaweed can grow up to 12 inches per day!

Fun roadtrip games can make the time pass by so much more quickly. Especially on very long rides. Roadtrip games aren't just for kids. Teens and adults will enjoy playing just as much as the younger kids.

Fun roadtrip games will lead into a variety of conversations, and laughter, (sometimes, arguements) which also helps pass time. If it causes an arguement, you might have to create your own rules on the spot. Make them up if you have to. Be creative.

Here are a few suggestions that has helped my family rid those long ride boredom blues.

Before you know it, you've reached your destination.

Scavenger Hunt

Fun roadtrip games aren't fun if they are too difficult. Depending on who is playing, this may be easier than BINGO. Use the same principal as BINGO. Just make it in a list form. (use pictures for younger kids) In this case, though, everyone has the SAME list. The first person to cross off everything, wins.

License Plates

Have a contest to see who spots the most variety of license plates. Write them down. Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, etc

Count Things

How many of something can you count from one destination to another. It could be red cars, motorcycles, semi trucks, cows. Use your imangination.

What's In There?

Use a canning jar, empty spaghetti sauce jar, whatever you can find that is big enough.

Fill with rice. Throw in about 20 - 30 tiny objects. (Make a list of what you put in it). Set a time limit. Let everyone have a turn to hold the jar. Let them turn it, shake it, whatever it takes, except they CANNOT OPEN IT. Who can find the most objects?

Things to throw in the jar might include: paper clip, coins, button, rubberband, screw or small nail, bobby pin, safety pin, earing, rock, dried pea, fingernail clipping, pencil top eraser, candy, etc. This is not as easy as it may look.

Rock, Paper, Scissors

When it comes to fun roadtrip games, this one has been around for a long time. Make a fist with your left hand. That's a rock. With your right hand, making a fist, pound down twice on top. The third pound down will be a rock, paper, or scissors. The rock is a fist. The paper is placing your hand flat over your fist, and the scissors is like the peace sign, shaped to make scissors.

Two people will be doing this at the same time.

The variations will be:

rock, rock, rock - even

rock, rock, paper - paper covers rock - paper wins

rock, rock, scissors - rock crushes scissors - rock wins

When we were kids, we didn't leave it at this. The winner would slap the loser on the wrist with two fingers. We would keep doing this until someone couldn't take it anymore.

I Spy!

Just watch what is going on in the vehicles that you pass, or the vehicles that pass you. When you spot something, make sure to let everyone know so they can see it too. You Will Be Surprised At What You See When You Are Paying Attention.

This is one of the fun roadtrip games that makes us laugh the most. Some things my family has observed is nose pickers, a lady on the back of a motorcycle wearing a bikini, a woman sniffing her shoe (not kidding), a guy rockin' to the music, a woman with her head in the drivers lap (don't ask), a guy shaving, etc. This fun roadtrip game can be shocking if you really pay attention to what is going on around you.

ABC

First person calls out a word that begins with A. Second person calls out the A word and B word. Third peron calls out the A, B, and a C word.

Fourth person might sound like this: apple, banana, car, deer.

Do this while trying to keep a steady rythym going. We snap our fingers while doing this, to keep the rythym. It doesn't give you much time to think.

This is a fun memory game.

These are our favorites when it comes to fun roadtrip games. I enjoy them as much as the kids. I hope you do too.

Happy Traveling
