How To Make A Fleece Blanket

now you know . . . . there was once an undersea post office in the bahamas!

Everyone wants to know how to make a fleece blanket because they are so extremely cozy, comfy, and warm. If you know how to tie a knot in your shoe, you can make this blanket. It's that Simple.

Here is what you need:

  • Fleece-Two cooridnating pieces Note-I just roll the fleece out until it looks like the size of blanket I want. Remembering that 4 inches on each side will be fringe. (close to 2 3/4 yards for an adult blanket)You need two pieces the same size A print and a coordinating solid is the most desirable.
  • scissors
  • ruler
  • masking tape-optional

Spread fleece out on the floor, right sides out, making sure all edges meet nicely and their are no wrinkles. Trim off any excess.

You can either use a ruler periodically or use masking tape for the next step. This does not have to be perfect.

You will cut fringes that are 4 inches long and 1/2 to 3/4 inch wide around the entire fleece. (here, you can place masking tape up 4 inches so you know where to stop cutting) or measure every once in awhile to make sure you are staying close to this measurement.

All fringes cut? Now, we want to cut a four inch square off each corner. (You can do this before you start cutting fringes, if you like)

Start at one corner. With each fringe, tie a double knot (like you would with your shoe) making sure to do it the same way each time. Experiment: You want the solid fringe on the printed side of the blanket and printed fringe on the solid side.

THAT'S IT - YOU DID IT

Beautiful and snuggly warm. Now that you know how to make a fleece blanket, let's try something else.

Using smaller pieces of fleece, you can make pillows to match. If you buy a 16 inch square pillow insert, remember you need the extra 4 inches on each side, so you will need 24 x 24 inch fleece pieces. I actually did 3 inch fringes on mine, but it was more difficult to tie. Use your own judgement.

These make the greatest gifts. The people I have made them for use them year after year and just love them. They really are the warmest and coziest blanket you will find anywhere. Make one for yourself and you will find out what I mean. Your family and friends will be asking you to make them one.
