Unfinished wood crafts
can be so much fun. Even the little kids can get their hands on it. Just think how proud they will be when they paint their own unfinished signs or unfinished picture frames, or even a bird house that can be perched outside your door.
These wood craft projects can be personalized to fit your style. For instance, I was able to put the date, weight, and length of a huge walleye my son caught on the picture frame so everybody that looks at it knows this information. I gave this as a gift. He absolutely loves it.
Any age group will find pleasure in completing unfinished wood crafts. You can go from very simple to the very detailed. Strictly up to the creator.
Unfinished wood crafts make the most excellent gifts. How about custom frames with family names on them to present at family reunions. The possibilites are endless.
Finishes For Your Unfinished Wood Crafts
The obvious of all finishes is paint. Their are so many possibilities with it. For the youngsters, maybe the base coat of paint is enough. As they get older, they want more variety in the things they do, and that includes projects like these. You can add stripes using masking tape as a guide. You could add dots using a pencil dipped in paint or even a dowel. (Depends on the size of the dot you want).
You can alway add a little texture. This can be done in a vaiety of ways. Dab a paper towel in paint and then on your project. Or dab it directly on your fresh paint. Experiment with plastic wrap, different paper, combs, etc. Drag a comb, feather, etc. across wet paint for another effect. The possibilities are endless.
Stain is another obvious finish to unfinished wood crafts. They come in every color imangineable and every sheen. Do you like flat or shiny?
How about a base coat of stain with details painted on. Use stencils, pencils or freehand.
This is another favorite of mine for unfinished wood crafts. Mosaics. Now this is tedius. Not recommended for the very young. You will need patience. This is not difficult, but could be time consuming. The end result is always worth the time you put into it.
